5 Oldest American gymnasts who will be competing at the Paris Olympics, ft. Simone Biles, Stephen Nedoroscik
As they say, age is just a number. While Gymnastics at the Olympics has been largely a field where teenagers have participated in and dominated, some gymnasts haven't let age come in their way of achieving glory. Take Simone Biles for instance.
Biles, one of the most decorated gymnasts from the USA, has just proved it by becoming the oldest gymnast to make it to the Olympics from the USA since Marie Margaret Hoesley at the Helsinki Games in 1952.
However, Biles is not the only gymnast who has defied the age factor to make it to the Paris Olympics. Here are some of the oldest gymnasts participating in the Paris Olympics:
#5) Jordan Chiles (Age - 23 years)
This 23-year-old gymnast from Tualatin, Oregon is participating in her 2nd Olympics. Jordan Chiles had been a part of the US roster at the Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal in the team all-around event. Chiles is also the world champion in the same event, having won the gold medal at the 2022 World Championships.
#4) Jade Carey (Age - 24 Years)
This 24-year-old gymnast from Phoenix, Arizona is also among the oldest members of the US Gymnastics team.
Jade Carey is a three-time world champion, with two golds in team events along with gold in the individual vault event at the 2022 World Championships. Moreover, Carey is also the defending Olympic champion in the women's floor exercise event.
#3) Brody Malone (Age - 24 Years)
A three-time USA National all-around champion, this 24-year-old gymnast from Johnson City, Tennessee, is the 2nd oldest male gymnast from the USA at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Brody Malone will be participating in the team event of the artistic gymnastics segment.
#2) Stephen Nedoroscik (Age - 25 Years)
A two-time NCAA champion, and the 2021 world champion in the pommel horse event, this 25-year-old gymnast from Worcester, Massachusetts is one of the oldest male American gymnasts to have qualified for the Summer Olympics in a long time.
Stephen Nedoroscik couldn't make it to the Tokyo Olympics, but at the Paris Games, he would want to leave no stone unturned.
#1) Simone Biles (Age - 27 years)
Preparing for her third consecutive Olympics, Simone Biles is not just one of the oldest, but also one of the most decorated American gymnasts ever.
Interestingly, had Gabby Douglas not been injured during the trials, Biles would have been the second-oldest gymnast on the team bound for the Paris Olympics.
Biles is joint top-most in terms of the most Olympic medals by an American gymnast with Shannon Miller [seven], though the 27-year-old gymnast has more gold medals than Miller, who has 2 golds to Biles' 4.
If Biles wins even a bronze medal in either of the categories, she will become one of the oldest American gymnasts to have won an Olympic medal. Biles is one gold away from having at least the 5th-best Olympic gold medal record in women's gymnastics, a list headed by Larisa Latynina, who has a staggering 18 Olympic medals [including 9 gold medals] to her name.
