16-year-old Quincy Wilson shares his hilarious reaction on having to attend school following gold medal triumph at Paris Olympics
Quincy Wilson had a dream outing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but he will soon be returning to his normal life. After winning gold at the Games, the youngster gave his honest and hilarious reaction about having to go back to school once he's back home.
Wilson was named to Team USA after his stunning performance at the Olympic Trials in June, which included him setting multiple world junior records en route to a sixth-place finish in the men's 400m finals. He was subsequently listed as part of the relay squad.
The 16-year-old kicked off his campaign at the Games fairly late, running as the lead-off leg in the men's 4x400m relay. The sprinter clocked a split of 47.27, placing USA seventh at the handoff, before Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Christopher Bailey went on to register splits of 43.6, 44.2, 44.5s to ensure the team made it through to the finals.
While Quincy Wilson was not a part of the four-man squad that ran the 4x400m finals, his appearance in the heats ensured he walked away from the Paris Olympics being a gold-medalist. However, the sprinter had a hilarious quip about returning to his regular life after the Games.
Posing with his medal and a morose expression, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Dang, I really got school in 2 and a half weeks💔.”
Quincy Wilson reflects on his Paris Olympics 2024 outing
For Quincy Wilson, his outing at the 2024 Paris Olympics wasn't his strongest performance yet, but it was a dream come true nevertheless.
“This was a dream come true, I didn’t run my best, but I knew I had a great team on my hands. I wasn’t nervous, I was 100% myself,” he told media after the race.
He went on to add that he's looking ahead to future competitions, and his focus is now on getting better for the next time he races at a major championship:
“I know I have multiple World Championships, multiple Olympics to go to, so it’s one of many. I will keep looking up, keeping out here like Sydney McLaughlin. So I will come back and get better for next year. This is just but a start.”
Wilson has been an absolute powerhouse in 2024, starting with the national high school indoors record time of 45.76s that he ran in March at the New Balance Nationals Indoors.
The youngster later went on to clock a World U-18 record of 44.66s in the opening rounds of the US Olympic Trials, before bettering his own record in the finals with a 44.59s. He broke his world record for a third time a month later at the Holloway Pro Classic with a 44.20s.
