"A ridiculous absolutely ridiculous athlete" - Fans in awe as Femke Bol leads Dutch to 4x400m mixed relay gold with solid anchor run at Paris Olympics

2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Femke Bol opened her Paris Olympics medal tally with a solid performance in the 4x400m Mixed Relays. This came on Saturday, August 3, where she helped the Netherlands team stun the United States with a come-from-behind win.

Running in the fourth leg of the relay as the anchor of the team, Bol registered a run time of 47.93 seconds (even less than her personal best run time in the event, which is 49.44 seconds) as the Netherlands team consisting of Eugene Omalla, Lieke Klaver, Isaya Klein Ikkink clinched the top podium in the event (run time of 3:07.43).

The United States of America (Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bruce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown) and Great Britain (Samuel Reardon, Laviai Nielsen, Alex Haydock-Wilson, and Amber Anning) won the silver and bronze medals in the event finals, with run times of 3:07.74 and 3:08.01 respectively.

Following Bol's incredible anchor run, where she came from fourth to take first at the very last moment, fans on X (formerly Twitter) showered high praise on the Dutch athlete.

Following Bol's qualification through the preliminary stages of the event, she will get an opportunity to have a shot at her first individual gold medal in the finals of the event scheduled on August 9 (Thursday). The Dutch finished with a bronze last time around in Tokyo, behind Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Dalilah Muhammed.

Bol is slotted to run in the third heats of the event, which will consist of high-profile opponents like South Africa's Zeney Geledenhuys (2022 African Champion) and Great Britain's Jessie Knight. Bol can also expect her arch-rival Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone alongside her (scheduled to run the fifth heats on Sunday) in the final.
