"All the African athletes"- Letsile Tebogo calls for an apology after expressing dissent on Netflix's latest documentary 'Sprint'

Letsile Tebogo expressed his dissent over the latest Netflix documentary series 'Sprint' which featured some of the best track and field athletes in the world, including himself. The Paris Olympics gold medalist expressed that he felt that the show was biased toward the American audience and that African athletes did not receive enough representation.

Sprint season 2 features some of the top athletes' journeys before and throughout the Paris Olympics. The documentary series aimed at giving track fans all access to the journeys of some of the fastest athletes in the world and featured Noah Lyles, Gabby Thomas, Sha'Carri Richardson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Fred Kerley, and Oblique Seville, among others.

As the second season of the documentary series went on air, fans were quick enough to express their thoughts about the latest show. Amidst all the excitement among fans, 200m Olympic gold medalist Letsile Tebogo took to X to express his thoughts on the latest docu-series.

The athlete from Botswana expressed his disappointment and felt that it was made for the American audience, as a major part of the show featured top American athletes like Noah Lyles and Gabby Thomas, among others.

"This is an American show," he wrote.

Furthermore, he reacted to a tweet which read:

"Letsile Tebogo, Marie Josée Ta Lou-Smith, and Mckenzie Long all deserve an apology from Netflix."

Tebogo replied to the tweet by saying that all African athletes deserve an apology.

"All the African athletes," he wrote.

Letsile Tebogo earns a nomination for 'Male Track Athlete of the Year'

Letsile Tebogo won the gold medal in the men's 200m at the Paris Olympics after putting forward a dominating performance to defeat Kenny Bednarek and Noah Lyles to claim the ultimate title. Along with the men's 200m, he was a part of team Botswana's 4x400m relay team which won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

After the Paris Olympics, Tebogo made back-to-back appearances in the Diamond League series. He won all his races except the Brussels Diamond League Finals where he lost to Kenny Bednarek in the men's 200m.

Due to his incredible pursuits during the 2024 Olympic season, Tebogo received the nomination for the 'Male Track Athlete of the Year' award by World Athletics. He was nominated alongside Noah Lyles, 800m Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Grant Holloway, Rai Benjamin, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

Tebogo has been named as the finalist alongside Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the race for the prestigious award. The winners of the award will be announced by World Athletics on December 1, 2024.
