Aly Raisman 'crying' as she watches Jordan Chiles win her maiden individual Olympic medal at Paris Olympics 2024
Three-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman recently reacted to Jordan Chiles' emotional moment during the floor exercise event finals at the ongoing Paris Olympics. This occurred shortly after Chiles secured her first-ever individual Olympic medal on the apparatus.
Chiles experienced contrasting emotions within minutes of her performance on Monday. The 23-year-old concluded her floor routine with a score of 13.666, resulting in a fifth-place finish overall.
However, after a successful appeal lodged by her coaches due to a scoring error (one of the elements from her performance was not properly marked and credited), her point tally was revised to 13.766, propelling her from fifth to third place on the podium.
Her countrymate, Simone Biles, clinched the silver medal with 14.133 points, while Brazil's Rebeca Andrade clinched the gold medal courtesy of her 14.166 points.
Upon realizing she had secured the bronze medal, Chiles erupted in joy, tears streaming down her face as her parents cheered from the stands. The excitement was contagious, with teammates Suni Lee and Jade Carey joining in the celebration of Chiles' hard-earned victory.
Following Chiles' emotional triumph, Raisman took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to a video capturing the 23-year-old's rollercoaster of emotions after securing the bronze medal in the floor exercise event finals. She shared the video and wrote,
"Crying. watching this on repeat"
Jordan Chiles wraps up her 2024 Paris Olympics with a gold and a bronze medal
After a silver medal (team all-around) at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Jordan Chiles added two more Olympic laurels to her bag in Paris. She kicked off her Paris campaign with a gold in the team all-around event. The U.S. women's gymnastics team dominated, scoring 171.296 points (Italy finished second with 165.495 points).
Following this, she added a bronze medal in the only individual apparatus finals she competed in, the floor exercises.
Chiles also secured fourth place in the individual all-around qualifying round but was unable to advance to the finals due to the two-per-country rule. With teammates Suni Lee and Simone Biles placing ahead of her, Chiles narrowly missed a spot in the competition. (IOC allows only the top two participants from the same country in the event finals, even if a third member is within the qualifying parameters).
