From Gabby Thomas to Lindsey Vonn: Stars react as Simone Biles wins all-around gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Simone Biles has further strengthened her legacy in gymnastics by clinching the all-around gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This caps an incredible comeback for her after she withdrew from the Summer Games in Tokyo, citing a mental block.
Biles was far from perfect on Thursday (August 1), but still managed to clinch a record-breaking gold medal. While she had a major error on bars, she put up a strong performance during her floor routine. Her difficult routines also gave her an edge over her peers and the much-needed margin for error.
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the silver medal, while Biles' teammate Sunisa Lee, the defending all-around Olympic champion, came in third.
Many were quick to react to Biles' achievement, including several stars like Gabby Thomas and Lindsey Vonn. On that note, let's take a look at some of the best reactions to the 27-year-old's latest Olympic gold medal:
#5 Piers Morgan
At the 2020 Tokyo Games, Simone Biles could only win one bronze medal and one silver medal before she had to withdraw from the majority of her events after struggling with the “twisties” — a type of mental block that gymnasts face.
British TV personality Piers Morgan cleverly recalled that while praising Biles.
"I got the twisties just watching this. Great to see Simone Biles back on top form again," he said on X (formerly Twitter).
#4 Brittney Reese
Olympic gold medalist and seven-time world champion Brittney Reese was impressed by Simone Biles' performance, and kept her praise short and effective.
"Simon Biles = TRUTH !" she stated on X.
#3 Gabby Thomas
American track and field athlete Gabby Thomas, who has two Olympic medals and two World Championship medals to her name, simply used medal emojis to convey her happiness at the achievements of Biles and Lee.
#2 Alexandra Raisman
Aly Raisman (three gold, two silver, and one bronze) won six medals in gymnastics at the Olympics over two editions, among a plethora of other achievements. Having seen and trained alongside the best in her professional career, she took to social media to congratulate both Simone Biles and Suni Lee, calling their double medal haul 'epic'.
"In awe of you Simone Biles & Sunisa Lee, congratulations!!!! EPICCCCC!" she stated.
#1 Lindsey Vonn
There are very few female athletes who come close to matching Biles' sporting achievements. American former World Cup alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn, with multiple World Championships and a handful of records, is one of the very few who can put her name alongside Biles.
The 39-year-old was so impressed with Biles' performance that she called the 27-year-old the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
"Simone Biles just playing with everyone out there!! What a bossss!!!! #GOAT," she opined.
