Gabby Thomas exudes excitement as she gears up to serve as the Grand Marshall at the NYC Marathon
Gabby Thomas expressed excitement as she gears up to serve as the Grand Marshal at the highly anticipated New York City Marathon. The Olympic gold medalist participated in the pre-marathon events a day before the main event and shared glimpses of her day as she prepared to flag off the race.
The TCS New York City Marathon 2024 is expected to attract approximately 50,000 runners from all over the world. The event boasts a total prize pool of $900,000 for the top finishers in elite events. Some of the top athletes competing in the event include Paris Olympic champion Tamirat Tola, Evans Chebet, and Bashir Abdi among others.
After winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, Gabby Thomas has been making several appearances at major sporting events, including the US Grand Prix in Austin, and a courtside visit at the New York Liberty game. Thomas took to Instagram to express her thoughts as she geared up to serve as the Grand Marshall at the New York City Marathon.
"Tomorrow is the day! Leading the way at the New York City Marathon as Grand Marshal is such an honor. I can’t wait to support and celebrate all the runners taking on this challenge along with the city of New York. Let’s freaking go, NYC! 🏃🏽♀️💙," she wrote.

Gabby Thomas appeared on the 'Set the Pace' podcast hosted by Rob and Becs and shared her thoughts on making an appearance at the New York City Marathon as a runner.
“Oh my gosh. I would love to say yes to that. I don't know how y'all do it. I really, I just, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe one day. But for now, I just, I cannot imagine it. I'm going to focus on the sprints.”
Moreover, the Olympic Gold medalist shared a message for the 50,000 participants at the NYC marathon and said:
“Oh, I would say, you know, every step you take is just a step towards chasing your goals. And showing up to the line is such an accomplishment. Stay focused, have fun, and just know that the entire city of New York is behind you."
The New York City Marathon is scheduled to commence at 8:00 am on November 3, 2024. The women's elite women's open division will start at 8:35 a.m. followed by the men's elite division at 9:05 a.m.
