Gabby Thomas reacts with a Donald Trump meme in response to critic who claimed Shericka Jackson's absence fueled her Olympic gold medal victory
Gabby Thomas has had an incredible year in the track, winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics. Away from the track, the sprinter has used her success to silence her doubters, and she was recently involved in an online back and forth with a critic, leading to the sprinter responding with a Donald Trump meme.
Thomas began 2024 on an impressive note, putting up consistent performances in her speciality event, the 200m, while experimenting with the 400m race as well. The 27-year-old’s wins at various competitions quickly established her as a favorite to medal at the 2024 Games, but one track and field enthusiast disagreed.
Back in June, one X user had taken to the platform to write,
“Something about Gabby Thomas just makes me not wanna see her medal at the Olympics.... I just can't put my finger on it!”
At the time Thomas had replied,
“This is so mean 😭 sending you love and healing,”
Recently, the American readdressed the X user, resharing the original post and writing,
“I meant to come back to this I almost forgot😂 🥇 🥇🥇.”
Following this, the X user responded saying Thomas only won the 200m Olympic title due to the absence of Shericka Jackson,
“You only won because Shericka was hurt stop being silly Gabrielle the relay merchant.”
To this, Gabby Thomas replied by sharing a GIF of US President Donald Trump serving french fries at McDonald’s.
Gabby Thomas sends a message to young athletes on dealing with negativity
As an athlete scrutinized by an audience of hundreds and thousand, Gabby Thomas has had to deal with her fair share of criticism from viewers. Her experience as a world class sprinter has taught her to deal with the pressure, and she once sent a strong message to younger athletes on dealing with negativity.
Speaking to Olympics.com, Thomas encouraged young girls to reach for the sky, despite any obstacles they might face.
"This is a message to all the younger girls who are watching, especially the young women of colour. Just know that the world might try to put you down, but the sky is the limit for you. You can achieve anything that you want to do - so just keep going.”
This year has seen Gabby Thomas thrive on the track despite what any critic might have said. At the Paris Olympics, the American stormed to the 200m title, before helping Team USA to the 4x100m and 4x400m relay gold, becoming the only track and field athlete at the 2024 Games to win three titles.
