Gabby Thomas opened up about the reason behind working hard
In a recent appearance at the podcast 'Why Note Me? with Mike Jackson,' Gabby Thomas revealed the reason behind working hard against all odds. She spoke about how her mother's hardships have always been an inspiration for her during her journey. She exuded pride in her mother's journey from being a waitress to becoming a professor.
"My mom is a rockstar. In that moment it is hard, but my mom grew up dirt poor in Mobile, Alabama. I mean Jennifer, eight siblings, nine, um they didn't have much, struggled to keep the lights on," said Gabby Thomas. "There was a lot going on, so for her to go get a scholarship at Duke was already incredible in itself, um you know, hit with a little bit of hardship."
She added:
"Not that my brother and I are hardship, but you know twins. A hurdle in life's journey, um, and just kind of working her way out of this, and this is something I talk about a lot about my own journey is watching my mom go from waitressing, working at a daycare going back to school, she continued school at Emory, um, and got her PHD in education."
Gabby Thomas' mother is the reason behind the American athlete choosing track as her career. She initially chose softball; however, she changed her field under her mother's guidance, and the 25-year-old thanked her for the same in an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
