Gabby Thomas weighs in on the incredible performances at the New York City Marathon
Gabby Thomas spoke about the amazing performances at the New York City Marathon. The Olympic Champion lauded the runners for putting forward incredible performances leading to the success of the marquee event.
The New York City Marathon had approximately 50,000 runners competing in the event, including several celebrities and elite runners who displayed a world-class performance on the streets of New York. Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands clinched the men's title with a performance of 2:07:39 to defeat former champion Evans Chebet.
Kenyan Athlete Sheila Chepkirui won the title in the women's division with a performance of 2:24:35, defeating Hellen Obiri, who finished second after clocking 2:24:49. Gabby Thomas received the honor of being the grand marshal of the marathon and took to X to express her thoughts on the success of the marquee event and expressed her admiration for the runners, saying:
"I’ve said it ten times, and I’ll say it again…these marathon runners are absolutely incredible 👏🏽,"
Thomas spoke about running the New City Marathon in the future in an interview with Rob Simmelkjaer.
“Oh my gosh. I would love to say yes to that. I don't know how y'all do it. I really, I just, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe one day. But for now, I just, I cannot imagine it. I'm going to focus on the sprints.”

Gabby Thomas penned a heartfelt note as she received the opportunity to become the Grand Marshal of the New York City Marathon. The Olympic Champion expressed how the marathon is a celebration of the sport of running and brings many people together from different backgrounds and diverse communities.
"Thank you @newbalance and @nyrr for granting me the opportunity of being Grand marshal for this year’s @nycmarathon 💙 Running is so much more than just a sport- it taught me about discipline, resilience, and finding joy in pushing limits."
She added:
"This marathon brings people together from all backgrounds and communities through the transformative power of running, and I was able to witness that today👏🏽 So proud of everyone who participated!!"
Alongside receiving this major honor, Gabby Thomas recently concluded one of the most successful years of her track career at Athlos NYC, a track meet that aims to bring about a major transformation in women's sports and pioneer change by providing female athletes with incredible opportunities.
