Has Sha'Carri Richardson defeated Shericka Jackson anytime in her career before Paris Olympics 2024? Exploring the head-to-head competition
Sha'Carri Richardson and Shericka Jackson are two of the fastest sprinters in the world at the moment. The American is leading the 2024 charts with a time of 10.71s while the Jamaican is fifth fastest this season with a time of 10.84s. The two are set for one of the most exciting battles in track and field at the Paris Olympics.
Although the two haven't faced each other in 2024 yet, they did so multiple times in 2023, and it is Richardson who leads the head-to-head battle. The 24-year-old's most notable victory over Jackson came at last year's World Championships, which also marks the highlight of her career to date, as she won her first title in 10.65s.
Richardson and Jackson's first clash took place at the Diamond League opener in Doha last year. The American clocked a world-leading 10.76s to defeat Jackson and Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith. The Jamaican finished second in 10.85 while Asher-Smith was third in 10.98. They met next at the Silsea Diamond League a month before the World Championships, and the result was pretty much similar.
Richardson clocked 10.76 for the win again while Jackson finished second in 10.78. The American-Jamaican rivalry would come to the fore again in Budapest but Richardson maintained her unbeaten run. She clocked a championship record of 10.65s to win her first world title, leaving behind the Jamaican who settled for silver in 10.72.
However, Sha'Carri Richardson's dominant unbeaten run in the 100m against Shericka Jackson ended in the last race of the year at the Diamond League Finals. She placed fourth in 10.80s while Jackson stormed to victory in 10.70s. The two haven't faced each other since, and are now set for an exciting battle at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sha'Carri Richardson's record over 200m
Sha'Carri Richardson is among the top five fastest 200m runners of the 2024 season with her time of 21.92 from the U.S. Olympic Trials. However, she didn't qualify for the Paris Olympics in the distance, placing fourth in the finals with 22.16s
Although Richardson kept beating Shericka Jackson over the 100m last season, she couldn't overpower her in the 200m distance. The half-lap event is the stronger suit of the Jamaican and the weaker of the American.
The two met over the 200m at World Championships finals and Jackson ran the second fastest time of 21.41 in the history to win gold. American sprinter Gabby Thomas settled for silver in 21.81 while Sha'Carri Richardson clocked a personal best of 21.92 for bronze.
