2024 U.S. Paralympics Team Trials - Track and Field - Day 3

How many Paralympic medals has Tara Davis-Woodhall's husband Hunter Woodhall won? Exploring the American sprinter's career achievements

Track and field couple Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall are both headed to Paris for the upcoming Olympics. While Davis-Woodhall will be vying for glory in her second Olympic appearance, Woodhall will be making his third trip to the Games.

Both of Hunter's legs were amputated when he was just 11 months old, as he was suffering from fibular hemimelia. He joined a track team at his school after switching from prosthetic legs to carbon fiber ‘blades’, and soon made his international debut at the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships as part of the USA National Paralympic team.

Hunter got a call-up for the 2016 Rio Paralympics after ranking 20th across the United States in the men's 400m. He competed in 200m and 400m men's T44 events, winning a silver and bronze medal, respectively. Capping off his Paralympic success, the high school standout secured an athletic scholarship from the University of Arkansas.

Hunter Woodhall earned multiple honors throughout his collegiate career and later qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics as well. In the 400-meter T44 men's event, the 25-year-old took home the bronze medal once more. A year later, in 2022, he tied the knot with longtime girlfriend and long-jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall.

Following his dominance in the 200m and 400m events, Hunter achieved success in the 100m event as well, winning a silver medal at the 2024 World Championships. The 25-year-old has now broken the American record in the event as well at the Paralympic trials with a time of 10.75s. Adding to his record-breaking spree, he also lowered his own American record in the 400m to 46.09s.

A few years before their marriage in 2022, Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall met at a track event in Pocatello, Idaho. The long jumper was standing near the track when a runner, who turned out to be Hunter, caught her eye. However, the Paralympic sprinter was wearing sweatpants, so Tara didn't notice his prosthetics.

But moments later, the name "Hunter Woodhall" kept booming over the speakers around her. Tara's realized that it was the same guy she'd been watching. Whatever the reason, she found herself drawn to the exit gates, where Hunter was presumably headed. There, she decided to hug Hunter, who later became her boyfriend and husband.

Hunter Woodhall and Tara Davis-Woodhall are now headed to Paris. Although they are medal contenders in their respective competitions, they will be looking to bring home some gold.
