How many team gold medals has USA Women's gymnastics team won at the Olympics Games?
The USA Women's Gymnastics Team has won four gold medals in 19 appearances so far in the history of the Olympic Games. The first top podium finish of the USA women in a gymnastics event at the Olympics came during the 1996 event in Atlanta.
The next two gold medals for the USA Women's Gymnastics team came in consecutive editions in 2012 London and 2016 Rio. The most dominant campaign of the side came during the 2016 Rio Olympics when the team of Simone Biles, Gabby Douglass, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, and Madison Kocian won the gold medal by a margin of over eight points.
The US side finished the finals with 184.897 points while Russia could manage 176.688. Owing to this performance, this team of five gymnasts was colloquially termed the "Final Five".
The fourth victory of the women's gymnastics side came at the French Capital in the Barcy Arena when the US team led by Biles defeated the Italian side by a margin of nearly six points. After missing the gold medal by a margin of over three points in Tokyo, the USA Women's Gymnastics team came back strongly to clinch a fourth gold medal in its Olympic history.
Led by the experienced Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles and assisted superbly by youngsters such as Suni Lee and Jade Carey, the team coordinated superbly to get back to winning ways in the Olympics after eight years.
Biles and Chiles competed in all four apparatus during the team all-around finals with Lee chipping in with three apparatus (beam balance, floor exercises, and uneven bars) and Carey in one (vaults). The four-time Olympic gold medalist, Biles, was the star of the show in the vaults and floor exercises and anchored the team superbly with 14.900 and 14.666 points respectively.
The 21-year-old Lee, on the other hand, produced solid performances in the uneven bars and beam balance apparatus with 14.566 and 14.666 points respectively.
