"I haven't been able to eat"- Jade Carey reveals health struggles that led to her fall during floor routine at Paris Olympics 2024

American gymnast Jade Carey faced heartbreak at the Paris Olympics as she struggled with her performance on the floor during the women's qualification round, failing to qualify for the individual finals in the event. The American has now revealed that she's been struggling with her health over the last few days, leaving her without energy to compete.

Speaking to Olympics.com after the women's qualification rounds at the Paris Olympics, Jade Carey revealed that she had been struggling with her health over the past few days, saying:

"I just have not been feeling well the past few days and haven't been able to eat or anything. I had, like, no energy today and didn't really have a sense of what was going on in my head. So, I just kind of wanted people to know that, so they know that there's actually something wrong."

The gymnast also took to X after the event to say that she gave it her all and thanked fans for their support, writing:

“I haven’t been feeling the best the past few days but I gave it everything I had today. Thank you for all the support I have received. I’m so grateful ❤️❤️.”

Carey entered the 2024 Games as the defending champion on the floor, and she was a favorite to make it to the finals of the event alongside compatriot Simone Biles. However, on Sunday, July 28, she was not at her best, making a handful of uncharacteristic errors in her floor routine.

The final nail in the coffin came when she failed to land her last aerial move of the routine, stumbling out of bounds and rolling onto her back. This major deduction led to the American scoring a disappointing 10.633, leading her to miss out on the individual floor finals.

Jade Carey qualifies for individual vault finals

While Jade Carey will not get a chance to defend her Olympic title, she still has an opportunity to add an individual medal to her collection. After her lukewarm performance on the floor, the American redeemed herself on vault, posting an impressive 14.433. This score places her second behind Simone Biles in the standings and qualified her for the finals.

Team USA will also be in action in the team finals, giving Carey another opportunity to add an Olympic gold to her list of accomplishments.
