"I already schooled you on this last Olympics"-Michael Johnson reacts to Piers Morgan claiming winning silver or bronze is equal to losing

Michael Johnson has fired back at journalist Piers Morgan following his recent claims about Olympic medallists. Morgan, in reply to a tweet shared by Johnson, said that winning a bronze or silver medal is equal to losing, especially if an athlete was the favorite to win gold.

In a tweet shared on his X handle, Johnson explained that winning an Olympic medal is one of the hardest experiences athletes encounter during the Games.

The American legend noted that an athlete might be a favorite to win a gold medal, but if he or she falters, in his opinion, that remains a win for the athlete. However, Morgan disagreed with his comments and pointed out that winning silver or bronze, especially if an athlete was the favourite to win the gold medal was equivalent to a loss.

In reply to Morgan’s tweet, Johnson noted that he had explained to the 59-year-old what he meant at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and was not going down that route again.

"Winning Olympic medals is hard. Even if you were favorite for 🥇and end up with🥈or🥉it was hard. Thats greatness. Maybe not greatest on the day, but that’s greatness!" Johnson first shared.

In reply, Morgan said:

"Losing isn’t greatness, especially if you were favourite to win. It’s losing."
"We’re not doing this again Piers! 😆 I already schooled you on this last Olympics!" Johnson told Morgan.

Michael Johnson elaborated on the qualities that enabled Noah Lyles to triumph over a quality field in the men’s 100m final at the Paris Olympics.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist shared a tweet on his X handle, explaining that Lyles is a unique sprinter who has made a name for himself on the global stage.

Johnson added that the 27-year-old is never afraid of losing races despite the criticism that comes with it.

"How did Noah Lyles win the closest most competitive Olympic 100m final? No fear! 👇🏾Noah Lyles is unique. He states his goals," Johnson tweeted.
"Puts on a show to draw attention to himself. That sets him up for tremendous criticism if he loses. He isn’t afraid to lose or the consequences of losing. You run fastest when you’re not afraid of the consequences of losing," he added.

Meanwhile, Noah Lyles was flawless in the men’s 100m final at the Paris Olympics, claiming the win in 9.79s, just milliseconds ahead of Kishane Thompson who also clocked 9.79s for a second-place finish.

Fred Kerley rounded up the podium, clocking 9.81s to cross the finish line. However, Lyles’ dream of winning triple gold was not realized as he allegedly contracted COVID-19, finishing third in the men’s 200m final and missing the 4x100m relay.
