"I'm that girl" -Jordan Chiles reveals Beyonce-inspired slogan that is her motto for the Paris Olympics
Jordan Chiles entered the 2024 season with a new slogan, ‘I’m that girl’, motivated by Beyoncé’s song. The 23-year-old explained that the unique slogan is more of an affirmation for her to keep going even on bad days as she gears up for the Paris Olympic Games.
Jordan Chiles noted that many people underrate Beyoncé but she believes that just like the American musician, many athletes come from humble backgrounds and are forced to work their way to the top.
Chiles, speaking during an interview with Aly Raisman on Olympics.com, noted that Beyoncé did not have a soft landing and had to dig deep to make a name for herself. However, something that stands out about Beyoncé is that the 42-year-old got into the limelight at a young age, just like Chiles.
"I’m that girl actually came from a Beyoncé song. I recently went to her show that she had in Houston and I just went to watch the documentary. It just inspired me a lot, because you know, a lot of people take for granted on who Beyoncé really is," Jordan Chiles said.
She added:
"For her, her childhood was crazy, and she became this childhood star, like she became Beyoncé at such a young age. I think, you know, I feel like that’s how it is with a lot of athletes, their name gets into the light so quickly that they don’t know how to contain or do anything with themselves until they get older."
The 2022 world champion insisted that having that slogan makes her days as she can wake up and look in the mirror and encourage herself. On the heavy days, Jordan Chiles noted that the slogan keeps her grounded.
"So it’s more of like an affirmation, it’s more of me being able to look into the mirror and be like, ‘okay, like you’re waking up, like you’re that girl, let’s go out there and do everything you need to do. That’s how I feel like going to the competition floor," Chiles said.
She continued:
"I feel like it gets me into a sassy mood. I do remind myself a lot of time because life can take a toll on you so there are always things that should uplift you. That’s with I’m that girl."
Jordan Chiles reveals the sport she would be doing if not for gymnastics
Jordan Chiles disclosed that if she hadn't become a gymnast, she would be somewhere running the track or throwing a javelin.
The 2023 Pan American Games champion added that if it had to be something outside of sport, she would be playing a musical instrument. Chiles is clearly spoilt for choice as she also highlighted real estate as one of the things she would love to pursue.
"If I had to choose another sport, it’d probably be track and field. But if sports weren’t something in this world, I would probably say—I used to play an instrument," Chiles told Elle.
She added:
"I used to play the clarinet, so I’d probably do something within the music industry, whether it’s jazz or something like that. But I really want to go into real estate. I love being able to see somebody’s dream house become their reality."
Chiles is fresh from sealing her second straight Olympic qualification following the conclusion of the U.S. Olympic trials.
As she heads to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Chiles will enjoy the company of Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera.
