"I couldn't see Noah Lyles"- Kishane Thompson opens up on photo finish with the American at the Paris Olympics
Kishane Thompson spoke about the photo finish with Noah Lyles in the men's 100m finals at the Paris Olympics in a post-race interview. The Jamaican athlete expressed his thoughts about the final moments of the race where Lyles, who was trailing behind by a small margin made a final push to become the first American to win the gold medal in the 100m in 50 years.
The men's 100m final was one of the most anticipated races of the Olympic games with some great athletes like Noah Lyles, Kishane Thompson, Fred Kerley, reigning Olympic Champion, and Lamont Marcell Jacobs taking the track in a quest for the pinnacle crown.
Jamaican athlete Kishane Thompson was off to a great start and dominated the race till the last 10m before Noah Lyles pulled through from behind to clinch his first Olympic Gold medal. Lyles clocked 9.79(.784)s to win the gold medal whereas Thompson took the silver medal with a time of 9.79(.789)s.
The Jamaican athlete opened up about the photo finish and the conversation the two athletes had while waiting for the result on the track in a post-race interview at the Paris Olympics.
"It was really a close race. I couldn't really see Noah based on the lane that we were in, I saw that I cleared who is to my near left and near right, but I couldn't see him. It was that close. When we both crossed the line, he came to me and he said 'Hey man, I think you got it,' but I wasn't really sure because it was that close," he said. (2:48)
Kishane Thompson on his main focus for the Paris Olympics
Kishane Thompson put forward great performances in the Olympic year which made him one of the top prospects for the medal in the Paris Olympics. After winning the Jamaican Olympic Trials, Thompson opened up about his focus on the Paris Olympics.
"My main focus is on the track on this very moment," said Thompson. "Those are like one would say side quest or side accomplishment, just come with the territory but my main focus, my main quest is train, stay healthy, and do what I gotta do on the track."
After winning the silver medal in the men's 100m at the Paris Olympics, Kishane Thompson is one of the top names to be a part of the Jamaican 4x100m relay team. The official list of the athletes participating in the relay as a part of the Jamaican team is yet to be released. The first heat of the men's 4x100m relay is scheduled for August 8, 2024, at 5:35 am ET.
