Mondo Duplantis and Desiré Inglander on their first date
While Mondo Duplantis and Desiré Inglander are inseparable now, the pole vaulter revealed that it wasn't always that way. The duo first ran into each other at a Midsommar party in 2020, when Inglander wasn't particularly keen on getting to know Duplantis,
“The problem was, people flirt in a very different way in Sweden than where I’m from. .[Where I’m from] there’s a lot more talking, you talk for a long time. So at the party, I was just trying to talk to Desiré, like ‘Hey, what’s up, I’m Mondo...’ but she didn’t want anything to do with it or me. She just wanted to dance,” the Swede told Vogue.
The two later connected on Snapchat, but Inglander revealed that she didn't want to go on a date, explaining,
\“I was 19, I’d never been on a date and I couldn’t imagine anything worse than eating with a person that I didn’t know. And in English,” she said in the same interview
Duplantis finally convinced Inglander to give him a chance when he said he would return to America in a few days.
“Finally. I just sent her a message more or less saying, ‘I leave in a few weeks for the United States. Let me take you on a date. Just say yes’,” he said.
Mondo Duplantis and Desiré Inglander got engaged in October when the pole vaulter proposed during the couple's photoshoot for Vogue Scandinavia.
