Simone Biles' husband and Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens recently claimed that the gymnast wearing a Green Bay Packers jacket to the Bears' pre-season game wasn't intentional. Biles' decision to go with the jacket of her husband's former team didn't go down well with Bears fans, who share a decade-old rivalry with the Packers.

Owens went undrafted in his first season as a pro before being signed by the Arizona Cardinals. He later moved to Houston Texans in 2019 and although he didn't get game time initially, the 29-year-old slowly built his place as a safety in the team. After putting up some impressive performances, Owens signed with the Green Bay Packers in 2023, the same year he married Simone Biles.

Just like Owens was a regular at Biles' gymnastics events, the gymnast also attended Packers' games regularly and even had a custom jacket made with Owens Jersey number 34 imprinted on it.

Owens moved to the Chicago Bears in 2024 and played his first game on August 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals, which was attended by Biles but in a Packers jacket.

Speaking with Chicago Bears' Lauren Screeden, Jonathan Owens clarified that Biles hadn't worn that jacket intentionally. He explained that the gymnast had just returned from Paris and had chosen the jacket in haste.

"Her mindset is you know, she's coming from the Olympics. It's like quick turnaround, it was a last-second decision. she's going to come to the game so she's like 'oh let me grab this it has his face all over'... it wasn't like intentional," he said (2:00-2:30)

Simone Biles won a staggering four medals at the Paris Olympics, taking her Olympic medal tally to 11. She won the gold medals in the team, all-around, and vault competitions while taking a silver on the floor exercise.

Jonathan Owens didn't know who Simone Biles was before dating her

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens met via an online dating app Raya in 2020 and it was the Olympic gymnast who made the first move, sliding into the latter's DMs. However, Owens had no idea who Biles was at that time, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, and instead of feeling disrespected, Biles liked the fact that he didn't know her.

“I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked, ” he told Texas Monthly.

The 29-year-old eventually got to know the gymnastics great in Biles and began attending her meets as well. The couple got engaged in 2022 before tying the knot in April 2023.
