Jordan Chiles opens up about learning an important lesson from her younger self

Jordan Chiles, who is currently on the Gold Over America Tour, recently shared a life lesson she learned from her younger self. The American gymnast also concluded her Paris Olympics campaign on August 11, 2024.

After winning a gold medal and getting involved in a bronze medal controversy, Chiles started her Gold Over America Journey alongside her teammates Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Joscelyn Roberson, and Hezly Rivera. This iteration of the tour also featured the men gymnasts, such as Paul Juda, Fred Richard, Brody Malone, Shane Wiskus, and Yul Moldauer.

The team is currently on their 28th stop and performed in Greensboro on November 1, 2024. Amidst this, the 23-year-old shared a meaningful life lesson she learned from her younger self on her Instagram story. She shared a picture of herself sitting on a stage, and the background showcased a picture of her younger self. The caption carried the lesson, which read:

"One thing this little girl will always remind me is don't let one story dictate your whole book!💖 "

Jordan Chiles won a gold medal in the team all-around event at the Paris Olympics, where she and the USA team earned a score of 171.296 points. Following this, she competed in the floor exercise, where she initially earned 13.666 points, claiming fifth place; however, an appeal was made by her coach, Cecile Landi, to re-examine the gymnast's difficulty score.

After this appeal, the judges increased Chile's score to 13.766 points, shifting her to third place. However, the American gymnast was stripped of her medal after the Romanian Gymnastics Federation appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. They claimed that Landi exceeded the one-minute time limit by four seconds and requested that the medal be returned to Ana Barbosu.

Jordan Chiles broke down after being ripped off her bronze medal

After being part of the bronze medal controversy, Jordan Chiles received a special gesture from Flavor Flav before attending the Forbes Power Women's Summit. The rapper gave the gymnast a bronze clock to honor her after the incident during the Paris Olympics.

The American gymnast opened up about the controversy during the summit and said:

“The biggest thing that was taken from me was, it was the recognition of who I was. Not just my sport, but the person I am," Jordan Chiles said.

She further broke down in tears while talking about the backlash she faced on social media. She said:

"It's not about the medal. It’s about my skin color. It’s about the fact there were things that have led up to this position of being an athlete. And I felt like everything has been stripped. I felt like when I was back in 2018 where I did lose the love of the sport, I lost it again.”

Jordan Chiles will next be performing for the Gold Over America Tour with her team on October 2 in Cincinnati.
