"Jordan Chiles really said I’ll get my own legal team" - Fans react as American files appeal against CAS decision to strip her of Olympic bronze medal

Jordan Chiles has recently appealed in the Swiss Federal Supreme Court against the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The CAS had revoked the Olympic bronze medal awarded to the American gymnast in the floor exercise event.

Chiles initially appealed against this decision, but CAS turned it down. After more than a month, the Olympic champion has decided to appeal against this decision. She has deployed her own legal team, as revealed in the press release.

Fans reacted to this decision on X.

"Jordan really said I’ll get my own legal team, I love it for her", remarked one user.

Another user posted a 'Deadpool vs Wolverine' meme and commented,

"Let's GO JORDAN and her legal team!!!"
"The Romanians will love this...." added one user.
"Yes Jordan! Following this closely!" said another user.

One user posted a GIF of a disinterested woman along with the comment,

"Girl just take the bronze clock and move on atp I'm tired."

Jordan Chiles had participated in four events at the Paris Olympics, viz. the team all-around event, the individual all-around event, the vault event and the floor exercise event. She had qualified for the finals of all four events, though she participated in only two: the team all-around event and the floor exercise. Chiles won an Olympic gold medal in the team all-around event and a bronze medal in the floor exercise event, which was later revoked.

What led to Jordan Chiles being stripped of her Olympic medal?

It all began with the finals of the floor exercise event. Rebeca Andrade of Brazil had convincingly won the gold medal, followed by Simone Biles, who had to settle for a silver medal.

However, the bronze medal and the controversy surrounding it refused to die. Originally, Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea of Romania were jointly given a score of 13.700. However, due to Barbosu scoring higher in the execution stage, she was awarded the bronze medal.

Chiles was ranked fifth, with a score of 13.166. However, the American coach Cecile Landi felt that her performance in the execution stage wasn't rewarded properly, and appealed against the same.

The jury relented, rewarding an additional score of 0.600 points to Chiles, thereby increasing her score to 13.766, and awarding her the bronze medal.

However, the Romanian contingent was left aghast by this decision. From an Olympic legend like Nadia Comaneci to even the Romanian PM Marcel Ciolacu, everyone raised their voice in unison against the decision. The Romanian PM even announced the boycott of the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

Following multiple protests, the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted the appeals from the Romanian judgment. In a unanimous verdict, they criticized the jury for acting in haste and also stripped Chiles of her bronze medal, reinstating the original scores and instructing the IOC for the reallocation ceremony of the bronze medal to Ana Barbosu of Romania.

However, it was now the turn of the American authorities to be enraged. Their appeal was turned down by CAS without consideration, which has been mentioned in the recent appeal filed by Chiles.
