Lexi Rodriguez makes her feelings known on joining pro team LOVB Omaha following Nebraska Cornhuskers departure
Lexi Rodriguez has shared her excitement ahead of her professional career debut with LOVB Omaha Volleyball. The former Nebraska Volleyball libero is set to debut during the team's inaugural season in 2025.
Rodriguez endured a tough exit from her farewell NCAA Volleyball Championships last week after Nebraska Cornhuskers were eliminated by Penn State in the final four. The 21-year-old was in tears following the game as she bid adieu to the program after four seasons.
However, it wasn't long before Rodriguez was back to smiling as she signed with LOVB Omaha for their inaugural season in 2025. Sharing her excitement in an Instagram story on Sunday on being able to remain in Nebraska, the four-time All-American wrote:
"On to the next chapter!! so excited for this opportunity to play in the states and no other place I would want to start off than Nebraska.
Rodriguez is set to make her debut following the holiday season with Omaha slated for their first match of the season on January 10 against LOVB Houston. They will play next against Madison on January 18 and the former Nebraska libero is expected to be seen in action during the game.
"They changed my life" - Lexi Rodriguez bids emotional farewell to Nebraska Huskers
Lexi Rodriguez joined Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2020-21 season and despite head coach John Cook having been hesitant to onboard her due to a shorter height, she rose to become one of the best players on the team, finishing as the program’s all-time digs leader with 1,897 digs.
Following the end of her journey with Cornhuskers after losing to Penn State, the 21-year-old was in tears and praised the program for changing her life. When asked what she would miss most, she replied:
"All the people, all my teammates, and all the coaches. Just everyone, every single person part of this program. Just truly amazing people and they just really changed my life and they just believed in me every single person, every single day from the moment I stepped on campus and you can't find that anywhere, you truly can't. I'm just so grateful for everyone and I'll say it for my entire life that this program was the best thing that ever happened to me."
Apart from being the all-time digs leader, Rodrigue earned the All-American honors in each of her seasons with the team. She was named the Defensive Player of The Year three times and is also one of four finalists for the AVCA National Player of the Year for the 2024 season.
