Michael Phelps opens up about the USA- Australia rivalry in swimming

Michael Phelps recently opined about the most historic rivalry in the swimming realm between the USA and Australia. In an interview with NBC News, Phelps said that the main aim of Team USA has always been to beat their contenders in the pool, no matter who they are. He also added that they are friends when they are out of the pool.

"When we are in the pool, yes of course, we are competitors, right," Phelps said. "We want nothing more than to beat the person next to us, whoever it might be. But when out of the pool, we are friends. Saying that, I hope Team USA rings those cow bells as loud as they can possibly ring, all meet long."

The American swimming team proved their prowess during the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics by winning a total of 33 and 30 medals, respectively.
