"My footwork is still better than half of the league today"- Christian Coleman opens up on his performance as a high school football player
American sprinter Christian Coleman spoke about his football skills and how they compared to current NFL players. He had recently represented the American track and field team in the Men's 4x100m relay event at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, a mistake during the baton exchange led to the entire American team being disqualified from the finals.
Coleman recently took to Instagram to remember his high school days, when he represented his school in multiple reports, including high school football.
In a rather blurred image, Coleman revealed about his days as a high school football player and said that his footwork was still better than half of the current NFL players.
"Was really like that. And I'm knowin my footwork still better than half the league today," the 28-year-old said.
Interestingly, Coleman already posted a proof of the same months ago. In March 2024, when NFL player Robert Griffin III himself compared Coleman's speed with the NFL combined, taking the 40-yard dash as a parameter, the American sprinter remarked:
"Mind you this was 7 years ago. My start way more efficient today."
Christian Coleman comes from a sporting family, as two of his cousins have done well in college football while his elder sister Camryn has competed in track and field at Georgia Southern University.
Coleman participated in multiple sports, including high school football at the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. Coleman played here as the defensive back and the wide receiver. Later, Christian Coleman received the Fred R. Langley Athletic Scholarship and subsequently attended the University of Tennessee, where his athletic career took off.
Christian Coleman's performances at the Paris Olympics
Despite clocking a career-best timing of 9.76 seconds, Christian Coleman could not qualify for the 100m or 200m events at the Paris Olympics due to finishing below the top three in the trials.
However, he did manage to find a spot in the United States' 4x100m relay team. The Americans qualified for the final after topping their heats, clocking a timing of 37.47 seconds. Coleman took 10.40 seconds to finish his leg.
However, an error during a baton exchange led Team USA being disqualified from the finals.
