"My mom instilled that's the most important thing" - Gabby Thomas reveals her life goal after successful Paris Olympics 2024 campaign
Women's 200m Olympic champion Gabby Thomas recently revealed her life goal after her after-track career ends. This comes just a few days after the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics which saw the 27-year-old bag three gold medals.
Following her successful Olympic campaign in the French capital, Thomas appeared on the Today Show for a conversation during which she discussed various aspects of her life both on and off the track. It was during this conversation that she was asked about her plans after retirement.
In response to this, Thomas talked about her degree in neurobiology and stated how she would thrive upon this degree to help the people of her community after her track and field career. She also discussed about the teachings of her mother that influenced her to arrive at this plan.
She said (at 4:33):
"I would love to give back to my community. My mom always instilled that's the most important thing. I would love to run my own non-profit and give back to the community and people that don't have access to health care."
Besides her elite track and field career, Gabby Thomas has a rich educational background that includes a degree in neurobiology from Harvard University in Cambridge.
Gabby Thomas ends Paris Olympics 2024 with 3 gold medals
After failing to clinch a single gold medal in her first Olympics in Tokyo, Gabby Thomas scripted a triumphant turnaround and ended her campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics with three gold medals.
Her individual gold came in the Women's 200m where she clinched the top podium finish after clocking a run time of 21.83 seconds. She defeated the reigning Women's 100m Olympic champion, Julien Alfred during her run. Alfred eventually finished the event with a silver medal after touching the finishing line in 22.08 seconds while US's Brittany Brown clinched the third place on the podium.
Besides the 200m event, Thomas was also a part of the United States 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that clinched gold medals in the 2024 quadrennial event. Running in the third leg of both the relays, she registered split times of 10.25 seconds and 49.30 seconds in the 4x100m relays and 4x400m relays, respectively.
Owing to her splendid performance, Gabby Thomas became one of the two US women track and field athletes besides Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to clinch multiple gold medals in Paris.
