Noah Lyles finds support in fellow track star as NFL's Tyreek Hill restates claims of being faster than the 100m Olympic champion
Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill were involved in an internet feud earlier this August when the latter claimed he could beat the 100m Olympic champion in the 50-yard dash. Now, the Miami Dolphins receiver has reignited the fire after Lyles' race with Youtuber IShowSpeed, leading to Olympic gold-medalist Vernon Norwood coming out in support of his fellow sprinter.
For Lyles, 2024 has been a satisfactory season. After claiming the 100 and 200m gold at the World Championships last year, he went into the Paris Olympics as a favorite to medal in both events. While he did win the 100m title at the race, he was forced to settle for bronze in his speciality event, the 200m, after dealing with a bout of COVID-19.
Recently, content creator Mr. Beast got Lyles and IShowSpeed together for a 50m race, with $100,000 on the line. As expected, Lyles took the win, but some viewers found the winning margin to be very little, and Tyreek Hill was one of them.
Taking to X, the NFL player reposted a video that was captioned ‘different angles show how close IShowSpeed was to beating Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles’, writing,
“And track athletes think he gone beat me.”
To this, two-time Olympic champion Vernon Norwood chimed into the conversation to defend Lyles and said,
“We don't think. We KNOW.”
Noah Lyles to potentially race Tyreek Hill in 2025
After all of their back and forth this year, Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill are reportedly set to race against each other in 2025. The race is supposedly a part of the Duael competition, a new track league that will feature head-to-head competitions between Olympic racers and other professional athletes, as they battle in an elimination-style tournament.
This race is slated to be a part of a “Super Serious On Sight” series hosted by Terry Crews and fellow Super Serious co-founders. According to reports, Lyles signed a contract for the race, while Hill only gave a verbal commitment. While details like distance and surface for the clash are yet to be confirmed, it is slated for 2025.
While Noah Lyles and Tyreek Hill have engaged in a battle of words on X about who is the faster athlete, Lyles was quick to come out in support of the Miami Dolphins receiver when he was handcuffed and forcibly restrained by multiple police officers of the Miami PD.
