"Not the day to do anything special"-Lindsey Vonn shares her thoughts after first World Cup appearance as she came out of retirement
Lindsey Vonn shared her thoughts as she made her first World Cup appearance in nearly six years. The American Alpine skier came out of retirement to compete in this Alpine skiing season. The skier revealed that she felt great about being able to return to the slopes and hoped to progress steadily as the season continued.
The former World Cup champion's return to the slopes raised great anticipation among fans who were speculating about her comeback as she was spotted training on the slopes of New Zealand.
She made her first appearance at the FIS Festival on the Cooper mountain in Colorado. Lindsey Vonn competed in two Super G races and placed 24th and 27th respectively.
After gaining the points required to compete at the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup, Vonn announced that she would be making her first World Cup appearance of the season at St Moritz in Switzerland.
The 40-year-old competed in the women's Super G and finished 14th with a performance of 1:16.36. She spoke about her performance in a post-race interview with Eurosport and said:
“I felt really good, there’s definitely a lot I have left to give. I really wanted to get to the finish today and be solid. I didn’t want to risk too much, today was not the day to do anything special. I think the course was a little bit bumpy when I went so in some sections I was a little bit more conservative with my line but in some sections, I was really fast. I'm just really close to being there but I'm not quite there yet."
Lindsey Vonn on facing scrutiny for competing in the skiing circuit after nearly 6 years
Lindsey Vonn spoke about facing scrutiny amid her return to the sport. The former World Cup champion expressed her confidence in being able to compete alongside some of the fastest skiers of the current circuit.
Moreover, she revealed that she has been improving in her practice sessions and hopes to perform at her full potential as the season progresses.
"I have no doubt that I can compete with them. You know I have trained with probably the top 10, top 20, and even the top 30 girls in the last few weeks. Somedays I was winning training, some days I wasn't. You know, I was testing a lot of equipment and I'm sure they were too. But I'm right here with them. You know, I may, it may take me a race or two, you know to get the rust off but I haven't really missed anything," she said.
Furthermore, Lindsey Vonn revealed that her body is healthier than it was a couple of years ago which further leads her to believe in her ability while competing in the season.
