"Not sure what I'm going to do with my time now" - Gabby Thomas left in limbo after Paris Olympics 2024 success
American sprinter Gabby Thomas recently stated that she is unsure how she will spend her time after her successful campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thomas concluded the quadrennial Games with three gold medals, emerging as the USA’s most successful track and field athlete at the Paris Olympics.
Thomas, who featured at her second Olympic Games in Paris, bagged a gold in the individual 200m, and was an instrumental member of the gold medal-winning USA women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.
In the 4x400m relay event, Thomas and fellow team members Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Shamier Little, and Alexis Holmes won the gold with an American record time of 3:15.27s, missing the world record by a tiny margin of 0.10s.
On NBC’s TODAY show, following her extraordinary Olympics journey, Thomas was asked what she plans to do next, and whether she would be eating the food she couldn’t earlier due to her training. She responded:
“Yeah, it's a little bit weird. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my time now and what I'm going to eat.” (4:06)
The American athlete did express her excitement about getting to have pizza, adding:
“It's all so much at once, but I'm really excited to have a pizza.”
It is worth noting that while preparing for the Paris Olympic Games, Thomas "skipped parties", as she said on her Instagram post celebrating her win, to stay focused on her goal. She is also balancing her track career with her education, having earned a master’s degree in public health with a focus on epidemiology.
Gabby Thomas wants to give back to community after retirement from track career
Two-time World Championships medalist Gabby Thomas discussed on NBC’s TODAY Show what she plans to focus on after retiring from her track and field career. She said:
“When my track career is over, I would love to continue to get back to my community. My mom always instilled that the most important thing is to be a member of society that gives back and so I'd love to run my own nonprofit and stay in the healthcare space and get back to the community and people who don't have access to health care.”
She previously mentioned that when not training, she worked at a local health clinic in Austin, Texas, where she currently lives.
