Team USA's Paris 2024 Olympics medal count in swimming events on Day 1
Team USA raised the Paris 2024 Olympics medal count in swimming to three on Day 1. Caeleb Dressel, Jack Alexy, Hunter Armstrong, and Chris Guiliano clinched the gold medal in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay event at the Paris La Defense Arena on July 27, 2024, to defend their title. The USA squad recorded an impressive time of 3:09.28 to defeat the Australian and Italian squads with 3:10.35 and 3:10.70, respectively.
Furthermore, the American female swimmers put on a stunning show in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay event, securing second place behind Australia. While Australia clocked 3:28.92, Team USA recorded 3:30.20. The Chinese squad followed them with 3:30.30.
Katie Ledecky won her first medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics in the 400m freestyle event. She settled for bronze after completing the race behind Ariarne Titmus and Summer McIntosh. While Titmus and McIntosh clocked 3:57.49 and 3:58.37, Ledecky posted 4:00.86.
Apart from swimming, Team USA earned its first medal in diving and cycling
Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook secured the first 2020 Paris Olympics medal for Team USA. The duo secured a silver medal in the women's synchronized 3m springboard diving event. While the Chinese duo of Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen led the event with 337.68 points, Bacon and Cook collected 314.64 points.
Chloe Dygert bagged a bronze medal in the women's time trial event, clocking 41:10.70. She followed Australia's Grace Brown and Great Britain's Anna Henderson, who posted 39:38.24 and 41:09.83, respectively.
