Paris Olympics 2024 Medal Count Day 8: Updated tally as Team USA stands 2nd after Simone Biles clinches vault gold
Team USA collected the highest number of medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Day 8. The American squad now stands in second place with 61 medals, which includes 14 gold, 24 silver and 23 bronze medals.
With the most number of medals earned in swimming (25), gymnastics and athletics stand in second place with seven medals. These disciplines are followed by fencing and shooting with four and three medals, respectively.
On day 8, the USA squad bagged 18 medals, including five gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals. The medal count for each sport for the USA with the conclusion of Day 8 is given below:
The Chinese squad is leading the overall medal tally with 37 which includes 16 gold, 12 silver, and nine bronze.

Vincent Hancock clinched his fourth Olympic medal in the men's skeeting shooting event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hancock was followed by his teammate Conner Prince in second place.
Continuing to cement her legacy at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles clinched a gold medal in the women's vault final after scoring a total of 15.300 points to defeat Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who posted 14.966 points. They were followed by Jade Carey in third place with 14.666 points.
Ryan Crouser won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the men's shotput event after recording a distance of 22.90m to surpass his fellow teammate Joe Kovacs' throw of 22.15m.
Nic Fink, Torri Huske, Gretchen Walsh, and Ryan Muroohy grabbed the gold medal in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, clocking a stunning world time of 3:37.43 to defeat the Chinese and Australian squads. Katie Ledecky was the frontrunner to win the women's 800m freestyle event and she dominated the event with 8:11.04 to surpass Ariarne Titmus and Paige Madden.
After registering a world record in the heats, the American squad, including Shamier Little, Vernon Nonwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown won the silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay after following the Dutch squad. Sha'Carri Richardson collected a silver medal in the women's 100m after finishing behind Julien Alfred, They were followed by Melissa Jefferson.
Kate Douglas bagged silver in women's 200m IM. Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram collected silver in men's tennis doubles while Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul won bronze in the same discipline. The other bronze medals were bagged by Jasmine Moore in the triple jump, Stephen Nedroscik in men's pommel horse, men's doubles and men's eight rowing.
