Prime Minister of Jamaica reacts to Kishane Thompson's silver medal finish in the Men's 100m

Andrew Holness, the Prime Minister of Jamaica has reacted to Kishane Thompson's strong performance in the Men's 100m final at the Paris Olympics 2024. Running on the fourth lane of the track, Thompson clinched the silver medal with a time of 9.79 seconds (9.789 seconds to be exact).

USA sprinter, Noah Lyles won the gold medal following a personal best run time of 9.79 seconds (9.784 to be exact), while Fred Kerley took bronze with a run time of 9.81 seconds.

Thompson looked quite dominant from the start and was also leading the race at a point in time, but Lyles accelerated superbly in the final few moments to get the better of the Jamaican in the end.

It was a very tight finish with both Lyles and Thompson registering nearly the same run time and the winner of the Paris Olympics 2024 Men's 100m had to be ultimately decided through a photo finish.

Following the silver medal finish from Kishane Thompson, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness shared his thoughts on the amazing performance of the 23-year-old Jamaican sprinter. He shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle:

"I am incredibly proud of you Kishane! You gave your heart and represented us well. Thank you!"

Kishane was among the two Jamaican athletes to qualify for the finals of the 100m, and the only one to clinch a medal. His compatriot Oblique Seville took the eighth spot in the finals by registering a run time of 9.91 seconds after finishing ahead of Noah Lyles in the semifinals.

Even though Kishane Thompson missed out on his first-ever Olympic gold medal on Sunday (August 4), he still has the opportunity to capitalize on his form in the Men's 4x100m relay scheduled in a few days' time.

Thompson is part of the Jamaican relay pool and his selection in the 4x100m relay team is an automatic choice, keeping in mind the performance he pulled off last month at the Jamaican National Championships, when he clocked a personal best run time of 9.77 seconds.

Besides Thompson, other formidable members of the Jamaican 4x100m relay pool include Oblique Seville and Ackeem Blake.
