World Athletics Championships Oregon22 - Day Three

"Pushing boundaries for British clean athletes"- Josh Kerr opens up on his main motivation in the sport as he chases first Olympic gold in Paris

Josh Kerr opened up about what keeps him driven in the sport, as he seeks to create a name for himself and British athletes globally. One of the ways he will be keen to accomplish this goal will be by claiming his first Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Games.

The world 1500m champion added that his main focus is becoming the greatest 1500m runner. Josh Kerr is ranked 20th on the list of 1500m runners, with 1258 points. However, he is working diligently to ensure he creates a path for British athletes.

Josh Kerr singled out consistency as one of the key factors contributing to his success as he looks to turn his dreams into reality. He explained that showing up every day has worked well for him as he boasted of having a supportive team that rallies behind him all the time.

"The biggest success I’ve had is my consistency and the best way I can do that is ensuring I treat my body in the right way. It is my biggest strength and for my running standpoint, I don’t miss days, that’s the way that we focus and structure our training," Josh Kerr said.
"I focus on trying to be the best in the world in the 1500m and my goal is just trying to create the right team behind me and get passionate about my sport and pushing boundaries for British clean athletes and hopefully, I can push the boundaries of what has been achieved so far in my career," he added.

Meanwhile, the Olympic 1500m bronze medallist briefed the fans about his training session on a typical day. He revealed that Fridays have difficult sessions and that he has to run a 10-mile race to get his body into rhythm.

Josh Kerr added that he would also engage in Plyometric exercises to work on his muscles. They are vital for developing the explosiveness of the muscles.

"You can have the flashy days and have the big workouts where everyone wants to watch or you can slowly but surely chip away at it and that consistency just means that we’re not taking big leaps and we know what works," Kerr said.
"So we are going to do 10 miles today and then we shall have plyos to do as well. Thursday is more of a priming day before the big Friday session. We are just getting the body in (the rhythm) because it sometimes feels sluggish if all you’re doing is running mileage," he added.

Josh Kerr made his interests known as he braces up for his highly-anticipated clash against Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the Olympic Games.

In what will be one of the historic clashes, where Kerr will be hunting for his first gold medal as Ingebrigtsen seeks title defense, fans will be on the edge of their seats to see who comes out on top.

Kerr and Ingebrigtsen have only clashed once this season, at the Prefontaine Classic where the former reigned supreme. Speaking to the Mirror, Kerr declared that he was ready for the war and would be out to claim the win.

"I am going to war. I don’t care how I win. People might think I only have one way from seeing Budapest but I’ve been doing this a long time, winning in every kind of way. I’d not even started focusing on the 1500m-specific work yet," Kerr said.

Kerr has yet to compete in a 1500m race this season and will be making his season debut on the purple track at the Stade de France.
