Sha'Carri Richardson and Mondo Duplantis to receive major honor from alma mater during the LSU-Alabama football game
Track and field athletes Sha'Carri Richardson and Mondo Duplantis are all set to be honored by their alma mater, LSU. This comes a few months after their appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The campaign was a successful one for both Duplantis and Richardson, with both athletes winning laurels for their respective countries. Richardson clinched a silver medal in the 200m and a gold in the 4x100m relay, while Duplantis successfully defended his pole vault title.
Owing to these impressive performances, LSU will honor their former athletes during the Tigers' clash against Alabama Crimson. Besides Duplantis and Richardson, numerous other prominent LSU Olympians such as Vernon Norwood, Juan Celayan-Hernandez, Aleah Finnegan, Taryn Kloth, and Kristen Nuss will grace this ceremony.
LSU made this announcement on their Instagram handle, writing:
"Repped LSU On The International Stage. We’re excited to welcome back our Olympians to be honored at the LSU-Alabama game this weekend!"
Both Duplantis and Sha'Carri Richardson competed for LSU's track and field side in 2019. The American sprinter won the 100m event for the side and finished second over the 200m distance during the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Duplantis, on the other hand, clinched a second place finish in the pole vault event during the 2019 NCAA event. In the same year, the Lousiana native also placed first in his specialization event at the SEC Championships.
Mondo Duplantis showered praises on his LSU teammate Sha'Carri Richardson
Mondo Duplantis showered praise on his LSU teammate Sha'Carri Richardson for her recent track successes during the Stockholm Diamond League meet a few months ago.
In an interview with Olympics.com, Duplantis stated that he is 'proud' of Richardson for what she has achieved on the track. He also mentioned the development both of them have had as individuals and athletes since their LSU days. He said:
"I think both of us, we knew we were capable of these kinds of things. I'm so proud of her. It's such a weird thing to think where we were then, not even just as athletes but as people, too. And then to see where we are now, it's super special."
In the interview, Duplantis also touched upon their success at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. It was during this event that the American sprinter became the joint fifth-fastest 100m runner in the world with a run time of 10.65 seconds.
