"She calls to ask why I never win"- Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon opens up on being motivated by her daughter
Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon opened up about her daugher being a source of motivation for her. The 30-year-old had an impressive outing at the Paris Olympics, where she won two medals.
Kipyegon won gold in the women's 1500m event for the third consecutive time , setting an Olympic record of 3:51.29. Australia's Jessica Hull and Great Britain's Georgia Bell won silver and bronze respectively.
Additionally, Kipyegon also won silver in the 5000m race after clocking a season-best timing of 14:29.60. She finished behind compatriot Beatrice Chebet while Netherlands' Sifan Hassan took home the bronze.
A few days after her exploits at the Paris Olympics, the 30-year-old athlete penned a heartfelt note on X, where she shared her source of motivation for winning races. She revealed that her daughter, Alyn, motivates her by asking why she 'never wins'.
"My daughter is a great source of my motivation," Kipyegon wrote. "On many occasions when I fall short of coming first, she calls to ask why I never win. I'm really motivated by that."
Before Paris 2024, Faith Kipyegon also won the 1500m gold in Tokyo 2020 and Rio 2016. The only time the Kenyan did not win a medal in the discipline was on her debut in London 2012, when she finished sixth in her heat and was unable to qualify for the semifinals.

Faith Kipyegon delivered a brilliant performance at the Paris Olympics and solidified her place in the 1500m dash. She opened up about winning the event in the post-race interview and showcased gratitude to all her close ones. The Kenyan revealed that she was aiming to make history. (as quoted by Supersport)
"I want to thank all the people that supported me- my coach, my management, my fans for telling me, 'You've got this over the 1500, You're going to make it.' Making history is what I was aiming for and I really thank god for this."
She also added that she had promised her daughter that she would win the 1500m dash:
"I told my daughter, 'I'm going to make you proud in the 1500m. It was anybody's race. So fpr me to make history. Unbelievable. I'm crazy or something. I'm really really happy."
Apart from her Olympic heroics, Kipyegon also won the 1500m event in the Paris Diamond League after clocking 3:49.04.
