Simone Biles makes shocking remark regarding her triple-double on floor exercise
Simone Biles recently said that she will no longer perform the triple-double in competition. The skill, featuring two flips and three twists, is one of the most demanding elements in gymnastics and has been a signature of her career.
The Olympic champion first executed the triple-double in 2019, making history as the first woman to achieve it in competition. This move, a hallmark of her extraordinary strength and precision, cemented her legacy as one of the sport's greatest athletes. However, she has now decided to retire the skill from her routines.
On Monday, December 16, Simone Biles took to her Instagram threads to announce she would no longer perform her signature move, writing:
"The fact I'll never do a triple-double again."
Since her return to gymnastics in 2023, Biles achieved several milestones, including an unprecedented eight US national title and leading Team USA to another gold at the World Championships. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she further solidified her status, winning four medals: three golds and one silver.
Reflecting on her historic performances, Simone Biles reacted to her triple-double performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Simone Biles details her Triple-Double performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Simone Biles made history at the 2019 US Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City, Missouri, when she became the first female gymnast to land a triple-double in competition. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she once again showcased her signature move on the floor exercise.
In a reflective moment after winning gold in Paris, Biles shared insights into her iconic triple-double in a video uploaded by NBC Sports, titled 'The GOAT Breaks Down her Triple-Double.'
In the video shared in October, Biles revealed her minimalist, instruct-driven approach, focusing on maintaining control rather than overloading her mind with technical cues. The gymnast emphasized the importance of controlling her power during the run-up and ensuring a clean landing.
She said:
"Honestly, I don't have many technical cues in a triple-double. Besides like, make sure you land on your feet. But honestly, in my run, I try to think about 'don't overpower it,' because usually I have a lot of power going into it already. So once I'm wrapping here, I'm like in open. And then usually I try to say, like 'chest up.'o not too, too much. Honestly, once you're doing the skills, once you start running, it's a wrap."
The Olympic champion also executed the triple-double during the 2019 World Championships qualification event, as well as during podium training at the 2019 US Classic.
