"Simone Biles owes that woman nothing"- Fans react as gymnast's biological mother who once abandoned her tries to reunite after win at Paris Olympics
Simone Biles' biological mother Shanon Biles recently expressed her will to re-establish a relationship with the gymnast following her successful campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024. Fans have voiced their support for the 27-year-old in this matter.
Biles' biological mother abandoned her after suffering from drug and alcohol addictions. In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Shanon Biles conveyed her willingness to reconnect with the gymnast. She also said that she would accept financial assistance from the 27-year-old.
"Of course I would accept her help. She hasn’t [offered] it so far. I’m here. I’m okay," Shanon Biles said.
In a recent article, The Daily Mail reported that Biles' has built a $25 million fortune and has chosen to keep financial boundaries with her birth mother. The publication shared the interview with fans on social media and wrote,
"The $25 million Olympic gymnast has given no handouts to her penniless birth mom who works as a cashier to make ends meet."
However, the gymnast's fans supported her, stating that she owes nothing to her biological mother, as one of them wrote,
"And why in the world would she? She owes that woman nothing."
Another fan called her biological mother "delusional," for believing the legendary gymnast has to reach out first.
"She still refuses to get in touch with her and thinks it’s Simone’s responsibility to chase her. That lady is delusional," the fan said.
One of the fans acknowledged Nellie Biles, her adoptive mother stating,
"Her mother chose drugs and abandoned her. She has a mother she loves. Biology is not destiny."
Here are a few more reactions:
"She worked hard. She deserves it all. Her mum abandoned her and is suffering the consequences of her actions," wrote a fan.
"She doesn’t owe her anything. Not a dime," another fan expressed.
"She left her to fend for herself. She deserves nothing," one of the fans voiced.
Simone Biles was raised by her grandparents
Simone Biles was adopted by Nellie and Ronald Biles after spending three years in foster care.
Born on March 14, 1997, in Colombus, Ohio, Biles along with her three other siblings were neglected by their biological parents Shanon Biles and Kevin Clemons. As Biles turned six, her maternal grandfather and his wife adopted her and Adria Biles, the gymnast's younger sister, and moved to Houston, Texas.
Simone Biles' adoptive parents raised her and played a significant role in shaping her into the legendary gymnast she is today.
They signed her up for gymnastics after the latter expressed her passion following a visit to the gymnasium for a daycare field trip. Nellie and Ronald established the WCC (World Champions Centre) dedicated for Biles' development.
The 27-year-old had a memorable outing at the Paris Olympics, winning four medals, three of which were gold. She won the all-around and vault events, while helping the United States to victory in the women's team competition..
