Spencer Lee, 25, of the University of Iowa, started off the Olympic year with a victory at the 2024 Pan American Championships against multiple Pan American medalist, Pedro Mejias, and 2020 Olympian, Oscar Tigreros. He then participated in the US Team Trials in pursuit of becoming the US Olympic Team member in 57 kgs. At the World Qualification Tournament, he defeated Zou Wanhou of China, and Rakhat Kalzhan of Kazakhstan to reign on top and earn an Olympic qualification.

"FloWrestling" has released the official wrestling bracket of Spencer Lee for the 2024 quadrennial Games. In the Round 16 match-up, Lee will face his World Qualification tournament rival Zou Wanhou of China to secure a seat in the quarterfinals. In the semi-final round in Paris, Spencer Lee's potential competitors are Uzbekistani freestyle athlete Gulomjon Abdullaev, Aliabbas Rzazade of Azerbaijan, Roman Bravo-Young of Mexico, and Arsen Karen Harutyunyan of Armenia.

Lee has had a successful career trajectory, having amassed three NCAA Division 1 National Championship titles, a Pan American Championship title, and three Big Ten Championship honors. His collegiate record of 98-6 etched his name as one of the top contenders in the Olympic line-up.

Spencer Lee exudes confidence ahead of his Paris Olympic run

The Iowa State alumni exuded confidence before heading to Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games. He talked about his strong form and how his coaches have prepared him to reach where he is at. He said (via WHO 13):

“I feel good, man. I’m ready to go. We know what it takes to be at that level. I got coaches who have been there and know what it takes to train and prepare the best,” Lee said.

Spencer Lee has been coached by Tom Brand in the Olympic tune-up at Iowa State University. Brands expressed his belief in Lee to succeed, and said,

“He’s where he needs to be for the next step and that’s the most important thing. When you have a chance of takin’ care of business you’re takin’ care of it," Brands said.

Hailing from a family of judoka's, Lee will compete in front of his grandmother for the first time at the Paris Olympics.
