"Even before I could walk, I was already climbing up the walls in my house" - Stephen Nedoroscik on being inclined to gymnastics from the start
Speaking in an interview with the Associated Press following his rise to stardom at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Stephen Nedoroscik revealed he was nicknamed “monkey boy" during his childhood due to his tendency to climb up the walls.
“When I was real little – I’m talking like, basically before I could walk, I was already climbing up the walls in my house, scaring the babysitters. So it didn’t take long for my parents to say, let’s put them in one of those preschool gyms,” he said.
Nedoroscik excelled in pommel horse from the start of his gymnastics career before it eventually earned him the nickname of "pommel horse guy" at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he performed a brilliant routine under pressure to deliver the first Olympic medal in 16 years for the USA men's gymnastics team.
The 26-year-old also earned a bronze medal in the individual pommel horse finals. He scored an impressive 15.300 to place third in a stacked-up field of international gymnasts.
