Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Grant Holloway, and other Team USA athletes name the rookie of the year and rate the best walkouts at the Paris Olympics
The Paris Olympics are over and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, along with the likes of Grant Holloway, Tara Davis-Woodhall and more, are now taking the time to decide which Team USA athlete deserves various accolades away from track and field. In the conversation, the group discussed who was the best rookie of the year, as well as who had the best walkouts before a meet.
For rookie of the year superlative, the choice was as obvious as could be. The team were conclusive in their verdict, naming 16-year-old Quincy Wilson. For Wilson, his year has truly been phenomenal. He started out by setting World U-18 records in the 400m at the U.S Olympic Trials, in turn booking a berth for himself at the Games.
At Paris, he went on to compete in the 4x400m relays, running in the lead leg in the qualification round. While Wilson had a weak showing at Stade De France, the team went on to win gold, and in turn the 16-year-old also walked away from the Games with a Olympic gold.
Now, in an interview with NBC Olympics, all of Team USA's brightest stars, including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Grant Holloway, Brittany Brown, Yared Nuguse, Cole Hocker, and Daniel Roberts were heard naming Wilson as the rookie of the year.
Meanwhile, in the same interview, the team was similarly decisive about who amongst them had the best walkouts at any meet. This title went to 100m Olympic Champion, Noah Lyles, who has been known to hype up crowds with jumps and cheers before lining up for every race.
Hocker, Nuguse, Roberts, and Holloway, all named Lyles as having the best walkout, while Tara Davis-Woodhall said the award would be split between the sprinter and McLaughlin-Levrone. Meanwhile, McLaughlin-Levrone stated that she felt Davis-Woodhall had the best walkout.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone names the best dressed Team USA athlete
In the same interview, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone also named who she felt was the best dressed athlete of Team USA. The four-time gold-medalist named Vashti Cunningham as the ‘fashionista’ of the group.
Hammer thrower Annette Echikunwoke and sprinter Brittany Brown both agreed with her, while Tara Davis-Woodhall and Grant Holloway named high-jumper Javaughn Harrison as the best dresser.
Another superlative that Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone weighed in on was ‘best laugh’ and for that she chose shot put thrower Raven Saunders, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics but could only finish 11th in Paris 2024.
