Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone makes her feelings known about running with Gabby Thomas and Alexis Holmes in 4x400m relay at Paris Olympics
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone shared her feelings on running with Gabby Thomas, Alexis Holmes, and Shamier Little at the 2024 Paris Olympics. They competed in the 4x400m relay, running the second-fastest time in history to win the gold medal.
While McLaughlin-Levrone was part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics 4x400m relay team as well, the other three sprinters were competing in the relay event for the first time. However, they combined perfectly in the finals to win the Olympic 4x400m title in 3:15.27s.
Speaking in an interview with World Athletics after receiving the Female Track Athlete of The Year award, McLaughlin-Levrone claimed that running with Thomas, Holmes, and Little was always an amazing experience.
“It’s always amazing to run with those ladies. We are really together now and we have our own training situations. Representing the USA together and getting that gold in Paris was just a really special moment," Sydney McLaughin-Levrone said.
While Shamier Little ran the first leg in the finals, McLaughlin-Levrone was flying on the second leg and put Team USA in a commanding position. She clocked the third fastest split in history, 47.71s, before handing off the baton to Gabby Thomas.
Thomas maintained the lead before Alexis Holmes touched the finished line in a combined time of 3:15.27s to hand the former her third gold medal of the Games.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone excited for 'special opportunity' at the 2028 LA Games
The Summer Olympic Games are set to return to the United States for the first time since 1996 in 2028 and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone can't wait to break 400m hurdles world records in front of the home crowd. The 2028 Games are set to take place in Los Angeles, where McLaughlin-Levrone also trains.
“It’s super-exciting to be able to have the Games in LA, where I’m training right now. I drive by the Coliseum at times and imagine what it is going to look like during the Olympics," she said during the aforementioned interview.
The 25-year-old further added that she hoped LA would be prepared for the biggest sporting event, where she could become the first woman in history to win three back-to-back 400m hurdles titles.
"I hope LA is going to be prepared for that moment. I know it will be. It’s a really special opportunity to have the Olympics in our back yard," she added.
McLaughlin-Levrone made her Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics but didn't win any medals. In her two more appearances since the 25-year-old has won four gold medals and broke the 400m hurdles world record a staggering six times.
