"The cutest...so happy for you both" - Michael Phelps, Lindsey Vonn, Suni Lee & others react to Shaun White and Nina Dobrev's engagement

American swimming legend Michael Phelps, former Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, and other celebrities shared their best wishes as US snowboarder Shaun White announced his engagement to The Vampire Diaries-famed Nina Dobrev. The couple has been together for the past four years.

White and Dobrev met during an award show in 2012 and got to know each other more closely in 2019 during a workshop in Florida hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins.

By April 2020, the athlete-actress duo had begun dating and went public with their relationship in an Instagram post. The American Winter athlete has always been vocal about the positive impact Dobrev has had on his life and how much she means to him.

According to Vogue, Shaun White was planning to propose to Dobrev during their summer vacation, but his plans got interrupted as the latter injured her knee in a dirt bike accident in May.

But this time around, he orchestrated a perfect surprise proposal in collaboration with Vogue by sending Nina a fake invitation for a CFDA/Vogue dinner at the Golden Swan restaurant in New York City. When she agreed to attend the dinner, White popped the question in a surprise turn of events.

White and Dobrev posted the news of their engagement on Instagram, which got a flood of congratulatory messages from athletes and numerous A-list celebrities.

"She said YES," White wrote.

Reacting to White's post, Michael Phelps wrote:

"Congrats!!!"

Lindsey Vonn shared:

"The cutest!!! So happy for you both!!"

Suni Lee stated:

"OMGGGGG CONGRATS."

"Yessssssss," wrote Hailey Bieber

"Congrats! So happy for you guys," Nick Jonas commented.

Shaun White reveals the beginning of his romance with Nina Dobrev

In February 2020, Shaun White and Nina Dobrev went on a desert safari while the actress was shooting for Redeeming Love. She invited him to visit her on the set. While they were keeping their relationship under wraps at the time, their secret was revealed due to the shared location.

"That was actually how we kind of started our relationship. And she [thought], 'Oh, this guy, he came to play. He's serious.' So that's a thing that we share together. We both enjoy traveling," White told US Weekly.

In 2021, Shaun White and Nina Dobrev enjoyed a double date in Wyoming with fellow The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley and his wife, Ines de Ramon.
