The 40-year-old geared up to make her first World Cup appearance at St. Moritz in Switzerland. She finally competed in the Super G and placed 14th as she navigated through the feeling of competing on the major stage alongside some of the best skiers in the world.
After the race, Lindsey Vonn took to Instagram to express her thoughts and revealed that she was content with her performance and is looking forward to the upcoming races of the season.
"I’m officially BACK!! 🙌🏻❤️ It’s been 2,162 days since my last World Cup race (almost 6 years!) but yesterday I got back in the starting gate and competed once again. I finished 14th, which was a perfect place to start. This is only the beginning though, and I’m looking forward to all of the adventures that lie ahead," she wrote.
Furthermore, she thanked her team, family, and her fans for their incredible support over the weekend as she aimed to make her first World Cup appearance in nearly six years.
"Thank you to everyone who made this weekend so incredible! My team, my family, the organizers, volunteers and all of the amazing fans… THANK YOU!!" she added.
Lindsey Vonn on her performance at the World Cup in St Moritz
Lindsey Vonn spoke about her World Cup performance in a post-race interview withEurosport. The American Alpine skier revealed that she was conservative in some sections and still has a lot of work to do to get back to her best potential.
Moreover, she did not want to make any risky moves considering the fact that it was her first World Cup appearance while coming out of retirement.
“I felt really good, there’s definitely a lot I have left to give. I really wanted to get to the finish today and be solid. I didn’t want to risk too much, today was not the day to do anything special. I think the course was a little bit bumpy when I went so in some sections I was a little bit more conservative with my line but in some sections, I was really fast. I'm just really close to being there but I'm not quite there yet."
She expressed her excitement about competing in the upcoming races in the Alpine Skiing season and hoped to progress steadily with every appearance.
