'Unwell' Simone Biles leaves for 2024 Paris Olympics, marvels at third career Games participation
Simone Biles is set to take part in her third Olympic Games. The American is part of Team USA for the quadrennial event in Paris.
Biles and the team departed for the French capital on Friday (July 19). She shared a series of updates on her Instagram stories about the same.
She first expressed delight at how good her bags looked. Later, she shared an update after checking in:
"God bless all the hands and backs that touch my suitcase, PRAYERS UP"
Biles then shared a picture of the sky from her airplane window and said that she was astonished by the fact that she was going to take part in her third Summer Games. She also informed fans that she is 'unwell':
"Unwell. Can't believe I'm heading to my 3rd Olympic Games"
Simone Biles took over the gymnastics world with her Olympic debut at Rio 2016. She won four gold medals and one bronze medal to establish herself as the biggest star in gymnastics.
Simone Biles eyes "redemption tour" at 2024 Paris Olympics
A lot was expected from Biles at the 2020 Tokyo Games where all predictions had her leading Team USA to the team gold, among other feats. However, she was forced to withdraw from the majority of her events there after struggling with the 'twisties' - a type of mental block that gymnasts face.
The American took a two-year break to prioritize her mental health before returning to the sport and securing her spot at the Paris Olympics. With the event just around the corner, Biles stated that this would be a 'redemption tour' for her and Team USA.
"I wake up every day and choose to grind in the gym and come out here and perform for myself just to remind myself that I can still do it," she told the media after winning her Olympic Trials.
"This is definitely our redemption tour. I feel like we all have more to give, and our Tokyo performances weren't the best. We weren't under the best circumstances either. But, I feel like we have a lot of weight on our shoulders to go out there and prove that we're better athletes, we're more mature, we're smarter, we're more consistent," she added.
The other members of Team USA's gymnastics squad are Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera.
