"USA gonna fight the powers that be": Flavor Flav fulfils 'bronze necklace clock' promise to Jordan Chiles amid Paris Olympics medal controversy
Jordan Chiles received a heartwarming gift from the American rapper, Flavor Flav after she was stripped of her Olympic bronze earned in the floor finals at the Paris Olympics. As promised, Flav made her a bronze clock necklace to make up for the medal loss.
Chiles was originally placed fifth in the Paris Olympic floor finals but later replaced Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu in the bronze position, following her team's inquiry submission for one of her leaps. Chiles' Olympic fate took an upsetting turn when the Romanian Gymnastics Federation appealed to the CAS to re-analyze the inquiry submitted by her team during the floor finals.
Though her score increased by 0.10 and she earned the bronze, it was short-lived. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation sought justice for Barbosu and claimed that the US team submitted the inquiry after the one-minute deadline. Following a hearing session, the Court of Arbitration for Sports declared that Chiles' scores would be reinstated, and the IOC ordered her to return the bronze.
Rapper Flavor Flav extended support to the two-time Olympian in one of the most heartwarming ways. He took to his X handle and shared that he would make Jordan Chiles a signature bronze clock necklace.
"Ayyy YOOOO @ChilesJordan,,, imma make you a BRONZE CLOCK NECKLACE,,, and that’s something NO ONE else has,!!! Hit me up my girl,,, I gotchu,!!!" he wrote in his X post.
Not long after, Flav released the look of the bronze medal he made for the Olympian, saying he kept his promise.
"USA gonna Fight the Powers that be,,, in the meantime between time,,,Imma always a man of my word @ChilesJordan."
Besides standing up to Jordan Chiles, Flav sponsored the US water polo Olympic team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Speaking to NBC, he echoed the difficulties faced by women in the sporting world.
"I got daughters and I know what it feels like to be competitive but yet not recognized for what you do," he said.
Serena Williams' husband wishes to build something better for athletes following Jordan Chiles' bronze medal scenario
After Jordan Chiles was upgraded to the bronze position following FIG's decision to award her more than 0.10 for her floor routine in the Paris Olympics, that automatically took away the bronze from Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu and allegedly subjected Chiles to racist comments.
Her mother Gina Chiles' X emotional post read:
"The racist disgusting comments are still happening in 2024. I'm tired of people who say it no longer exists. My daughter is a highly decorated Olympian with the biggest heart and a level of sportsmanship that is unmatched."
In response, tennis legend Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian, expressed concern and promised to build something better for athletes.
"I am so sick of this. Gonna build something better for athletes."
Chiles now has two medals in the team competition, a gold earned in Paris and a silver in Tokyo.
