WATCH: Despite suffering an ugly crash, cyclist Chloe Dygert scripts heroic comeback to win bronze medal at Paris Olympics 2024
Chloe Dygert bounced back from a fall to claim bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. Making her third Olympic Games appearance, the American was in the hunt for a gold medal, competing in the women’s cycling time trial.
Dygert appeared to be on course for gold medal, but the slippery floor and poor weather conditions made her lose control of her bike as she stumbled and fell.
However, Dygert managed to pick herself back up and continue with the competition, showcasing her resilience and fighting spirit on the Olympic stage. In her pursuit of success, she completed the podium, finishing behind Great Britain’s Anna Henderson.
Australia’s Grace Brown claimed the gold medal after clocking a stunning 39:38.24. Henderson and Dygert finished a minute behind the Australian ace.
A video shared on X showcased Dygert’s hunt for a gold medal, as she slid and seconds later, picked herself back up, and continued with the competition.
The video was captioned:
"The conditions are so tough right now in Paris. Chloe Dygert just fell, but she’s back on her bike. She still definitely has a chance to podium…#𝘛𝘌𝘈𝘔𝙄𝘿𝘼𝙃𝙊."
This is the American’s third Olympic Games after making her debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, winning silver medal in the team pursuit. She then won bronze in the team pursuit at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Chloe Dygert honored to represent USA at Paris Olympics
Chloe Dygert was thrilled to make the cut to the American Olympic team for the third successive Summer Games.
The Kristin Armstrong-coached athlete was selected for the American team following her exploits at the 2023 UCI Time Trial World Championships where she claimed top honors.
After being selected to represent the U.S., Dygert said:
"It’s truly a blessing. I am truly blessed to be selected for my third Olympic Games in USA colors. Thankful for those who go above and beyond behind the scenes to make sure I’m the best I can be on and off the bike. We will see you in Paris."
She stated that there were times she never believed in her abilities and was forced to trust in God solely as she chased her dreams.
As quoted by KTVB7 news during her final preparations before the Olympic Games, she said:
"It shows again that it’s about trusting the process, believing the team around me, and trusting God’s plan. There were times when I thought I wasn’t going to make it. But I’m here in Boise for the last preparation and feeling good."
She has since claimed her first medal, a bronze in the women’s time trials. Chloe Dygert will be in action in the cycling road race on Sunday before her final event, the women’s team pursuit that starts on Tuesday.
