Fred Richard stuck a near-perfect landing after performing a stellar routine on the high bars in the men's gymnastics team finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His score of 14.833 was more than eight-tenths of his score in the qualifying round, which contributed to the US men's gymnastics team's first medal since 2008.
Fred Richard was a pivotal part of the men's gymnastics team at the 2023 World Championships, which earned him the bronze in the all-around and team competition. His all-around podium finish was the first by a US man since 2010. In the Olympic year, Richard came as a heavy medal favorite at the 2024 US Olympic Trials.
In pursuit of his first Olympic gold, the Michigan Wolverines athlete finished first overall with a score of 170.550 at the Olympic Trials. He also finished in top three in three apparatuses, which automatically qualified him for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He competed along Brody Malone and Paul Juda in the qualification round and finished with the highest point tally, 83.498 in the all-around. In the men's team finals on July 29, 2024, Fred Richard hit the high bars routine to display a winning maneuver. His near-flawless landing earned him 14.833, the highest among his other scores.
In a video posted by an X page, he was seen circling and landing after two air flips, throwing his hands up in the air and sporting an expression of pride.
"HIS NAME IS FREDERICK RICHARD! 14.833 on the high bar! The face of US Men’s gymnastics!"
As the men's team finals just concluded, Fred Richard scored 14.466 in the floor exercise, 14.033 on the rings, and 14.566 in the parallel bars. The US men's gymnastics team stands in third with 257.793, behind Japan and the People's Republic of China.

Richard made his Olympic debut in Paris with his eyes set on the individual all-around gold. His performances on the floor routine and high bar totaled his score to 83.498.
In a post-race interview, when the 20-year-old was asked about his feelings, he shared that he wished to enjoy every moment at the Games.
"I think it’s better. The energy’s amazing, my body feels great, I’m healthy, I’m strong, and it’s the moment I’ve been waiting for, I want to enjoy it and I am enjoying it," said Richard. (via Andscape)
