Japan won gold with 259.594 points, closely followed by China who won silver with 259.062, while the U.S. secured a bronze with 257.793 points, their first medal in the event since 2008.
Nadia Comaneci talks about her experience of carrying the Olympic Torch
Nadia Comaneci spoke about her experience while carrying the Olympic torch in a boat along with other sporting legends, during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. Making an appearance on the Olympics.com podcast, she shared her experience:
“That was just historic for me. I think I felt a lot honored to be a part of the Olympic flame and with so many legends that were there in the boat. Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal - that I have known for a few years since I come here to watch the Roland Garros [The French Open] - Carl Lewis has been a great friend for such a long time.”
She added further:
“It’s a historic moment and the fact that it was raining and we were like the movie Flashdance, all dancing and wet. The boat was going like that. We are gonna remember this for the rest of our lives.”
Nadia Comaneci also stated that although they got wet, it wasn’t a big deal, adding:
“No, it didn’t matter. We just had to be sure that we just passed the Torch to each other and enjoy the time and enjoy the Olympics coming back to Paris after 100 years. We did a lot of photos, videos and special moments.”
Notably, France is hosting the Games for the first time in 100 years, having last hosted in 1924. They also previously hosted the 1900 edition.
