WATCH: Rebecca Andrade's stunning floor routine which defeated Simone Biles for gold at Paris Olympics 2024
Simone Biles lost the floor gold podium to her Brazilian rival Rebeca Andrade in the floor finals on August 5 at the Paris Olympics. Andrade, the 2023 all-around world silver medalist, stunned with her floor maneuver in a turquoise green leotard, which earned 14.166 and placed her top of the leaderboard.
Simone Biles faced Rebeca Andrade at the 2023 World Championships, the event which not only marked the former's Worlds comeback but Andrade's moment to defend her all-around world title. Though Simone Biles posted the highest scores on the vault, balance beam and floor to earn her sixth world title, she faced an upset in the individual vault finals by Andrade.
Despite executing her eponymous Biles II, the Yurchenko Double Pike, she trailed the Brazilian by 0.201 points. In the floor finals, her score of 14.633 narrowly edged out Andrade's 14.500. But she couldn't extend her floor win streak to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Rebeca Andrade graced the floor routine in a turquoise green leotard and stuck the final double pike landing perfectly after an elegant maneuver. In a clip posted by NBC Olympics & Paralympics on X, she was seen catching every beat of the music during her routine.
"Simply stunning from Rebeca Andrade."
Simone Biles scored 14.133 behind Andrade in the floor routine which led her to two gold medal podiums at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her silver finish in the event came after her rare fall in the balance beam finals, thus breaking her Olympic win streak.
The six-time world floor champion, Simone Biles, anchored her team to the gold and earned the individual all-around and vault golds at the quadrennial Games in the French capital.
Simone Biles - "I don't want to compete with Rebeca no more"
Throughout her career, the most decorated gymnast in history hasn't had anybody to reach her level of excellence. But since Rebeca Andrade's entry into the gymnastic world, Biles has been on her toes.
In the gymnastics all-around competition in Paris, Biles found herself trailing Andrade after two rotations. The former's stunning vault routine had already set the tone for the night. The three-time Olympian claimed the top position in the end but expressed her unwillingness to compete with Andrade anymore.
"I don't want to compete with Rebeca no more. I'm tired. She's way too close. I've never had an athlete that close, so it definitely put me on my toes and it brought up the best athlete in myself," Biles smiled and said in a post-event interview. (via NBC)
Biles now has seven Olympic gold medals in her repertoire and 11 medals in total, making her the only US gymnast with such an achievement.
