Kanye West and the US gymnastics gold-winning team

WATCH: Suni Lee, Simone Biles, and Team USA gymnasts enact Kanye West's famous Grammy speech as they win the gold medal in Paris

Simone Biles and the US gymnastics women lip-synced to Kanye West's famous Grammy speech after retaining the team gold position at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team earned a total of 171.296 points to shift Italy (165.494) to second and Brazil (165.497) to third.

Simone Biles showed remarkable resilience after her turbulent stint at the Tokyo Olympics. The 'twisties' forced her to withdraw from the previous edition, refusing her individual wins and performances in the team final. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, four female gymnasts who competed in Tokyo, Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles and Jade Carey, returned to reclaim the title in what they called the 'redemption tour'.

In the qualification round on July 27, 2024, the US team staged stellar routines and shined through, despite Carey's uncharacteristic fall and Simone Biles' calf injury. They collected 172.296 in total and entered the finals as the top seed. In the finals, they repeated the feat and earned 171.296 to win the gold.

With the gold medals around their neck, Simone Biles and her teammates lip-synced to the iconic rapper Kanye West's infamous Grammy speech, which had left the internet abuzz after he received the honor for his album, College Drop Out, in 2005.

Suni Lee took to her Instagram handle and posted the video, featuring the winning team beaming with pride.

"Everybody want to know what I would do if I didn't win," Lee and Jordan started the speech.

Everyone joined in for the following line, which said:

"I guess we'll never know"

Simone Biles' floor routine, the last performance of the last rotation in the women's gymnastics team finals, gave the US team an edge over team Italy, who were otherwise leading till the second-last performance of the night.

Biles added the eighth medal to her Olympic gold haul, equaling herself to track great, Usain Bolt.

Simone Biles exuded pride after winning the team gold at the Paris Olympics

The US women's gymnastics team retained the position that they had last claimed at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Biles and her teammates had a wobbly stretch in Tokyo in the wake of her withdrawal, with Lee and Jordan Chiles replacing her in events in the team finals. Despite being a gold favorite, the team settled for silver behind Italy.

But after the top-of-the-podium finish in Paris, the five-time Olympic gold medalist jubilantly expressed that they had a lot to prove after Tokyo and they achieved it.

"I think we all had something to prove from Tokyo. And tonight we did just that." (via The Guardian)

The gold medalist gymnasts will grace the mat again on August 1 for the all-around finals at the 2024 Summer Games.
