"We can't do the 100m but we're in talks" - Noah Lyles ready to race Tyreek Hill after being challenged for a 1v1 clash by the Dolphins WR

Noah Lyles has said he is ready to race NFL star Tyreek Hill after being challenged for a 50-yard dash last month. The 100m Olympic champion had initially said he would only race over the 100m distance but is now ready to drop down to the 60-yard dash.

The talks of the potential clash between the two stars started when Hill said he wasn't impressed with Lyles' 100m win at the Paris Olympics, adding that he could beat the sprinter in a one-on-one clash.

The world champion didn't give it much attention at first, saying that Hill was 'chasing clout'. But the Miami Dolphins wide receiver looked determined for a challenge, calling out Lyles for a 50-yard dash. Lyles however, wanted to race over the 100m. He told NBC News:

“I mean, if somebody wants to sponsor the event and we’re racing for millions of dollars and it’s on a track and we’re running 100 meters, then sure, we can race.”

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has claimed he is in talks with Hill for a potential 60-yard dash challenge. He said (via ESPN):

"You can't take a shot at the title but I'll let you take a shot at me. (...) I'll say we can't run the 100m but we could do 60 yards. We're in talks." [04:30]

Noah Lyles also extended support to Hill after he was mishandled by police outside the Hard Rock Stadium last week.

"Nobody should have to go through what he went through. No matter the circumstances, we are all human beings and we should be treated as such," he said.

It would nearly have been impossible for Hill to beat Lyles over the 100m distance given the stark difference in their stats.

Does Tyreek Hill have any chance of beating Noah Lyles over the 60-yard?

Although the Dolphins WR was a sprinter in his early days, he would have at least needed a sub-10-second performance to have an outside chance of beating Noah Lyles, and he has never run faster than 10.19s in his life.

With the Paris Olympics champion ready to drop down to the 60-yard dash, Tyreek Hill could find it slightly easier as he makes the short runs frequently in NFL games. He has a personal best of 6.64s over the 60m and an impressive 4.29s over the 40-yard dash. While Lyles still has better stats, if he isn't at his best during the race, the Dolphins WR may edge out the Olympic champion.
